Hey everyone, how are you all doing? Thank you so much for your feedback on my last post and I really appreciate it and can’t stop writing more. Today I am going to tell you about ‘Why is mental health important and how do we need to take care of it?’ Today I am here to tell you something new and unique about the same.
Have you ever wondered how much you take care of your physical health than mental health? Okay just think about how much time you give to your physical health like sports, exercise and gym or in other activities and how much you actually give to yourself to be calm or meditate? Someone is asking ‘do we need to?’ I am like ‘why do we not need to?’ Let’s have a look here.

IMPORTANCE OF MENTAL HEALTH
Mental health is more important than your physical health. Yes, it is. As one's thoughts play an amazing role in maintaining their health (physical as well as mental) which I have already shared in my first blog. For your better understanding let's discuss some case studies.
Many of you heard about Stephen hawking(1942) who was the physicist. He was known for his mind blowing work with black holes and relativity, and the author of popular science books like ‘A brief history of time’. In early 20’s he discovered that he has ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is motor neuron disease which is responsible for voluntary muscle movement in a person’s brain and spinal cord. The affected person loses his control over his body. If he wants to lose hope, he can and he will stay in bed all day long while cursing god ‘why did it happen to me god?’ but no guys, he has a positive mindset and good control over his mind. If he did not save him those inevitable thoughts which automatically come into your mind when something bad happens to you then we definitely lost him early.
Do you ever imagine if you were born without arms what could be your mental state. It is like ‘hopelessness’, ‘no motive to live’, ‘I do not have arms’, ‘no confidence to face others’, ‘you may depend on others’. And this is the story of our next fighter Jessica Cox (1983) who was born without arms. She could have lived down to low expectancies into this world. In spite of all that, she did so many things one after the other, she learned to swim, drive a car, fly an airplane, earn two black belts in taekwondo, and scuba dive. She holds the title of the ‘first person without arms to get black belt in taekwondo’ and ‘Guinness world record for the first pilot to fly with her feet’. A big salute to her.
Nick vujicic(1982) came into the world with neither arms nor legs. Throughout his life, he dealt with the typical challenges such as bullying, self esteem, struggled with depression and loneliness as he was questioned ‘why he was different from others?’. He learned to dealt with disability. ‘He became a motivational speaker’ and ‘new York times best selling author’.
Another story of my senior. His name is Arjun Gupta who had gone into depression for 2 years and he fought back. Today he was invited to so many conferences to talk about mental health and he wrote two books in his graduation. He graduated this year. The book's name is ‘A-Z about mental health’ and ‘shh… don’t talk about mental health.’ He is a mental health blogger and activist.
Alright guys, you see it all, just take any of them and ask yourself what you would do if you are in the same situation. You see here how their physical health is, so how badly it would affect their mental health but they won’t give a space to their negative thoughts instead of this they were trying to be positive and be motivated to do something in their life.
We all are here with good physical health but if anything happens to us wrong. Instead of fighting back we start cursing others, blaming them, and go silent, upset, stressed and when it will be turned into big… no one knows. So be thankful for your presence. Do observe your thoughts. Instead of using statements like ‘I am fail’ to ‘I got one chance again’, ‘Why this is happening to me’ to ‘This is happening for something good’, ‘I am ugly’ to 'I am beautiful.’ so do embrace yourself with the things you have and do enjoy it.
HOW DO WE TAKE CARE OF IT?
For this I won't tell you to take out some time because it is all time practice. you need to practice it every single minute, hours, days, weeks, months, years. Every person is thinking all time so why don’t we practice in that time only. Whenever you think of a negative situation or thought, immediately put your positive words there consciously. Do this practice for sometime and one time came when you were only used to positive situations. And if you take out some time for yourselves so mean it and utilize that time. The things you could do is:
It is not as easy it seems. You need to keep practicing. Give some time to yourselves to get used to it.
- Read books related to psychology, positivity, self development. It gives a huge amount of detailed information and tries to pick one habit which initiates you as a positive being.
- Meditation plays a vital role in one's life. It aligns your soul, mind and body. It has inevitable results like calmness, focused, relaxed, stress free, happiness, keeping you active. Research shows that meditation can help you better handle negative feelings and emotions.
- Do exercise daily. It keeps you active and energetic. It helps in boosting your confidence, keeps you concentrated and feels better. While exercising you involve your whole body which activates the blood circulation in the body. Exercise does help in promoting your mental health.
- Do journaling, in this you can write 3-5 things for which you are grateful for. For instance, ‘I am grateful for all those who read my blog’. Keep writing it daily for your whole life otherwise give it a try at least. I have done it personally and I am very happy with this practice. it would take only 10 minutes. You can write for simple things like for your hand, eyes, body, parents, friends or so many.
- Talk to others, share your happiness, feelings and experiences with others. It works as a coping mechanism. whenever you feel stressed, upset, loss of interest give it a try. But make sure to talk only with your closed one, not to anyone.
- Do your favorite thing. It could be listening to music, dance, sketching, painting, writing, reading, netflix and chill. Give yourself some time to enjoy yourself. It gives you a strong hit while doing these and it elevates your emotions.
- Look at your old pictures or with friends and memorize all those good days, whenever you get bored. I personally used it and I found myself smiling while looking at those happy pictures. It feels better than before.
- Have a positive attitude. Keep yourself positive no matter what situation is. Matter is how you respond in a situation and remember from my last blog where I had mentioned how your thinking affects your behavior. So be positive.
- Stop being judgemental as you have heard ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’. So, don’t judge a person by his feelings, emotions, behavior, appearance, colour, sex, height , weight or anything. You may like, ‘how judging other people affects me’. It affects you by the way of your thought because you are thinking about that person (if negative or positive. Choice is yours!!). Let’s be kind and empathetic towards others.
- Talk to professionals as they will help to encourage you. Share your thoughts in a safe and confidential environment, they will listen to you, understand the way you feel. They help you to identify negative thought patterns and replace them with positive one.
It is not as easy it seems. You need to keep practicing. Give some time to yourselves to get used to it.
